Message from Rev Peter McAnenly

Dear Friends, We’re delighted to participate in this special pilgrimage in honour of the 150th anniversary of the presentation of the Icon of Our Lady of Perpetual Help to the Redemptorists by Blessed Pope Pius IX in 1866. At that time, the Pope commissioned the Redemptorist Order to “make her known to the world” and as the Icon is brought to the twenty six Cathedrals in Ireland and to many of the Redemptorist Communities, the Order will be making her known to many people.

It’s wonderful that this beautiful Icon is being brought to us during the special Year of Mercy when all of us are being encouraged to experience a real change of heart. We hope that the Icon will arrive with us in St Patrick’s Cathedral, Armagh on the evening of Monday 9 May 2016 and it will leave the following day. During the time that it is with us in Armagh, we hope that many people will come and venerate the special Icon and we also hope that there will be opportunities for people to gather in prayer and offer their intercessions.

With it being The Year of Mercy, people will be invited into St Patrick’s Cathedral through the Holy Door which represents a new opening for God’s mercy to every heart and whilst the Icon is with us, we hope that many people will celebrate the Sacrament of Reconciliation and experience the real love and mercy of God in their lives.

Again, we look forward to the visit of the Icon of Our Lady of Perpetual Help and we pray that it will be a time of graces and blessings for all who partake in this special Pilgrimage.

The Redemptorists are a religious congregation of brothers, most of whom are priests. We live in community and are passionate about preaching the Gospel, especially to those who feel abandoned and live on the edges of church and society. A growing network of co-workers and associates is evidence of our conviction about the importance of partnership in mission and of our commitment to enable all the baptized to take their rightful place in the life and ministry of the church.
